Commonwealth Games


It is an international level multi-sport event where athletes from the commonwealth compete in different sports. It began in 1930 as the first event held in Hamilton, Canada. Since then, it has been organized every four years. Previously, it was known by various names called the British Empire Games from 1930 to 50, the British Empire Games and Commonwealth Games from 1954 to 66 and the British Commonwealth Games from 1970 to 1974. It has since been known by its current name (Commonwealth Games).


History

The Commonwealth Games are administered by the Commonwealth Games Federation, based in London, England. Australian-born Astley Cooper first came up with the idea for these games in 1891, and called for sporting events to be held to show the unity of the British Empire.


The Commonwealth Games bring countries together with colorful celebrations of sports and human achievements. But the Olympics have developed dramatically since it started in 1930.


British Empire Games

The 1930 British Empire games were held in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada from 16 to 23 August 1930. 11 countries: Australia, Bermuda, England Guyana, Canada, England, Northern Ireland, Newfoundland, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa and Wales sent a total of 400 athletes to compete in athletics, boxing, lawnball, rowing, swimming, diving and wrestling. 스포츠토토
